Father James Coyle: Martyr of Duty
0:00
Father James Coyle was a Knight of Columbus, the pastor of St. Paul’s Church in Birmingham, AL, and the face of Catholicism in the city in the early 1900s. When the beloved priest celebrated the wedding Mass of a mixed-race couple, the father of the bride, who was also a member of the Ku Klux Klan, confronted Father Coyle and shot him in the head. The shock of such a brazen act of violence, the ensuing trial and the unjust verdict it produced would become one of the biggest news stories in the United States in its day. As he was about to run his first full marathon in New York, Ron came up with the idea for Lunchbox Grandpa. With help from his Brother Knights, he used his run to help fundraise for meals at the school for an entire year.

0:00
When Oleg Vorobyev, a member of The Blessed Hryhorij Lakota Council 17651 in Lviv, first joined the Anti-Terrorist Operation in the Donbas region of Ukraine in 2015, he was moved by the plight of his fellow soldiers, many of them ordinary men who suffered while separated from their families. Returning home, he and his wife, Olga, founded “Happy Together,” an organization to provide support for family relationships and marriages of men in the ATO. When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Oleg was called again to fight for his country. He was killed in battle May 30 near the city of Popasna in eastern Ukraine. Family and friends remember Oleg as a man of love, faith and patriotism. In 1963, Father Les Costello of North Bay, Ontario, was looking to help raise funds for a local man who lost an eye. As a former Stanley Cup Champion with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Father Costello gathered a group of priests to play a charity hockey game, and it was at that moment, the Flying Fathers were born. Today the team continues this legacy with a new generation of priests, many of whom are Brother Knights. They provide an opportunity for families to enjoy a fun event that raises awareness for vocations to the priesthood.

Building a Platform of Academic Success – David Chamberlain
0:00
If something involves wood, it very likely involves David Chamberlain. When the COVID-19 pandemic restricted children in his community of Lithia Springs, Georgia, to remote learning, David wanted to help. A gifted woodworker, he gathered 15 brother Knights to build desks for children to be able to properly do their schoolwork from home. The Knights distributed the desks to many grateful families, making a difference in many children’s lives. David believes that everyone has a talent from God, and thus it is our duty to share that gift with those in need.
