In 2009, the Knights of Columbus launched a new initiative designed to keep kids warm in harsh winter climates. With many families with young children struggling in tough economic times, there was a clear need to provide warm winter coats to children in their communities. And so, the Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids program was born. Since the program's inception, the Knights of Columbus in the United States and Canada has given away 150,000 coats to children in need. More than 1,000 of local Knights of Columbus councils have participated in their communities. Members of St. Benedict Council 12290 in Anchorage handed out almost 500 coats to kids in need at a back-to-school event organized by the city’s police department. Arizona Knights Collect School Supplies for Foster Kids

Knights from Council 10050, in Scottsdale, Ariz., partnered with local charity OCJ Kids to host a “Tools 4 Success” School Supply Drive. OCJ Kids collects school supplies for children in foster care who might not otherwise have what they need to succeed in their education. Knights in Newtown, CT, worked alongside Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a national organization that aims to end child bedlessness by building beds for children in need. Brother Knights built and delivered beds on the eve of the Feast of Blessed Michael McGivney to children in the community who now have a bed to sleep on in their homes.
