Jim Jenifer, a 94-year-old man, has been a Knight of Columbus for more than 50 years. His great-grandfather, Alfred Jenifer, was a former slave who fought for the Union Army in the 19th United States Colored Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. In May 2021, the District of Columbia State Council honored Alfred Jenifer with a plaque on his gravestone.
