It was a terrifying display of the growing violence on the streets of Syria, and for Shadi, the limit of what he could endure. Fearful for his family’s lives, he took them and fled. Their story could have easily ended in tragedy, but after surviving two years as refugees, the Al Dakhil family is now safe and thriving in Canada thanks to the sponsorship of Holy Redeemer Catholic Parish in Ottawa and the Knights of Columbus. Jim Wahlberg’s youth was filled with brokenness. In his formative years, he learned how to steal cars, break and enter, became homeless by age 12, and succumbed to addiction. After becoming a ward of the state and serving multiple prison terms, a chance meeting with Mother Teresa while incarcerated changed the trajectory of his life, beginning his path back to Christ.
